Richie Barker, player and manager, dies at 80

It is with much regret that we record the passing at the age of 80 of Richie Barker who, as both player and later manager, rendered yeoman service to Notts County. He came to Meadow Lane from Derby County in December, 1968 when acting-manager Jack Wheeler, persuaded chairman Jack Dunnett that Richie was worth every penny of the £10,000 fee being demanded by the Rams for his services. It was at this stage of his football career that he gave up part-time work as a draughtsman in order to become a full-time professional. This week on The Magpie Circle we celebrate the 12th year anniversary of the passing of legendary Notts manager Jimmy Sirrel. We are joined by former Notts player Jon Nixon as we chat & remember the great man himself, Jimmy Sirrel. Nixon was signed for Notts by Jimmy Sirrel in the early 70's and went on to play over 200 games for the club, all of which were under Jimmy.
