Celebrating his 89th Birthday today Jackie Sewell was no doubt one of the finest players to play for Notts County. Jackie made his debut for Notts on the 14th September 1946 scoring once in a three nil win against Norwich. In a little over four years Jackie broke the Magpies individual scoring record in the league surpassing Tom Keetley's total of 94 goals. His goals were no doubt aided by the presence of Tommy Lawton. Jackie helped Notts win promotion from Division 3 (South) in the 1949/50 season as Champions, which they clinched in a 2-0 win against Forest at Meadow Lane in front of 46,000 fans, also scoring was Tommy Lawton. During that season Jackie scored 19 goals from 32 games and Tommy scored an incredible 31 goals from 37 games. In March 1951 Jackie left Notts having scored 14 goals from 26 appearances to Sheffield Wednesday for a then transfer fee record of £34,500. Jackie played 6 times for England scoring 3 goals and for Notts County he made 178 league appearances scoring an amazing 97 goals, the NCFPA would like to wish Jackie a Happy Birthday.
