Lack of Support Causes Cancellation of Former Players’ Annual Golf Day
For the first time since its inauguration in 2000 the Former Players’ Golf Day, scheduled to take place on September 9, has been cancelled through lack of support.
Organisers Brian Bates and Les Bradd expressed “a huge sense of disappointment” that what would have been the 16th annual event would not be going ahead.
Only ten entries had been received when the decision was taken, with great reluctance and after contacting numerous former players who have participated in earlier years, not to proceed.
Brian and Les have every intention of going ahead with plans for the Golf Day to be revived in 2016 but say they are open to suggestions as to whether a different time of year might help to boost numbers.
Ever since its inception the Golf Day has been held in mid-September and, after starting at Ruddington Grange Golf Club, a variety of venues has been used. For the second year running this year’s course was to have been at Trent Lock.
