Celebrating Greatest Days – 25 Years On!
Time flies…so fast that, incredible as it may feel, it’s 25 years since Notts won the first of two successive play-off finals at Wembley to reach the pinnacle of English football.
Heady days as Notts first, in May 1990, beat Tranmere Rovers (2-0) to reach the old Second Division and then, in June 1991, got the better of Brighton and Hove Albion (3-1) to achieve promotion to the top flight.
Both promotions, among the greatest days in the Magpies’ post-war history, will be celebrated at the annual dinner of the Former Players’ Association next May.
It’s hoped that every member of the squad in those two seasons will be there and Steve Cherry, Tommy Johnson and Dean Thomas are already busy tracking them down and inviting them all to attend, including skipper Phil Turner.
Contact is also being made with Neil Warnock, who was manager and master-minded those triumphs, and his assistant Mick Jones to ensure their attendance.
The reunion dinner will be held at Meadow Lane and a limited number of tickets will be available for Notts fans to purchase. Details will be published on this site in due course about their cost and availability.
