TOMMY ASHER

March 16, 2017

We have learned with regret of the passing at the age of 80 of the former Notts player, Tommy Asher, who will be remembered by older Magpies' fans as a skilful inside forward.  He came to prominence as a young player of great promise, his performances with Doncaster Schoolboys winning him three England international caps at that level. Tommy spent some time as an amateur with Wolverhampton Wanderers before Notts stepped in and offered him professional terms in July, 1954.

After spending three seasons in the Notts reserve team he made his senior debut in a home game against Swansea Town (as they were then) in September 1957.  Notts were beaten 4-2 but gained revenge in the return fixture a week later, winning 3-1 when Tommy scored the first of his four goals for the Magpies.  He went on to complete 31 league appearances before moving on to Peterborough United in August, 1959.

The Committee and members of the Association extend sympathy to all of Tommy's family and friends on their loss.
