Mick was born in Hexham, Northumberland and signed for Notts from Keyworth United in 1984 for a £500 fee.
The former electrician at Plessey’s made his debut at Wimbledon on Boxing Day in the same year and completed a total of 83 league and cup appearances, scoring a creditable 32 goals.
The 1985/86 season, with 18 league and cup goals, was his best season for Notts.
It was a year in which his partnership with Ian McParland (scorer of 20 goals) really flourished.
Between them they scored eight FA Cup goals, helping the club to progress to round five while operating at the third tier in the league.
Mick’s height (6ft 4ins) was a big factor in unsettling opposing defences.
In New Zealand he’s had two contrasting jobs – one as coach to the national team and the other as a police officer.
