Happy Birthday Don Masson

Today sees Don's 70th Birthday, Don was born in Banchory in Scotland but raised in Middlesbrough where he joined the staff at the age of 17 and made his league debut at the age of 18. He played a part in helping them win promotion in 1966/67 making 19 appearances. In 1968 Don left Middlesbrough after making 53 appearances and scoring 6 goals to join Notts County. Don made a tremendous contribution in his first spell captaining the side to two promotions to the top tier. Don left Notts in 1974 for a fee of £100,000 signed by Dave Sexton to join Q.P.R where he enjoyed another successful spell and won a Division One runners up medal in 1975/76 with Q.P.R who were pipped by Liverpool by one point, he also won 14 international caps for Scotland. Don returned to Notts in 1978 via Derby County staying on until the end of season 1980/81 when Notts finished 2nd to West Ham gaining promotion to Division One. Overall Don made 402 league appearances scoring 92 goals and was a all time favourite at Meadow Lane.
