We are saddened to learn that Les Stancer our oldest former player passed away last night, Les was born on the 19/04/1925. Les played for Notts County during the Second World War, mainly friendlies plus one FA Cup appearance in the Autumn of 1945.
Les was soon playing for Grantham and scored on his debut in January 1946 against Mansfield Town where he made seven appearances.
The majority of his games came in the 1948/49 campaign although after this his appearances came infrequently and he ended his Grantham career in 1953.
After football Les became the landlord of the Recruiting Sergeant Great Gonerby before spending nearly 20 years as the landlord of the Cherry Tree, Harrowby Lane. He was later a resident at a Sleaford Care home.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
